BCT? – that’s Basingstoke Community Transport
Yes, I have been a volunteer driver for BCT for quite a while now with breaks in between the years. The last one was over two years ago.
I have found that being a driver is a way of giving me a sense of purpose in my old age and keeps me out of mischief. It’s helping vulnerable children, the disabled and elderly to get some improvement to their lives. It’s about meeting groups of various types to provide a much-needed service for them.
All the drivers are a good-natured bunch . The management and admin staff are the same. We do have to deal with the usual frustrations though such as road blocks/repairs which can cause delays and sometimes vehicle breakdowns, although rare thankfully.
I drive both the smaller vehicle with wheelchair access and the larger buses, some of which have wheelchair access, and used for school runs, shopping runs and group excursions. Individuals can use the service but the must be a member. Just ask if you contact the office for the first time.
